On 30 September, we held a company outing with our colleagues, partners, retired colleagues and Bert’s family to celebrate our 50th anniversary in May 2021. Unfortunately, due to Covid, we had to postpone it a few times, but now the time had finally come for us all to get together and enjoy a day out.
At 10.30 we were met by Hein Bos Coach Travel Picked up from our company in Nijnsel. From Nijnsel, we travelled by coach towards Maastricht to Stiphout Shipping Company . Stiphout Shipping took us on their lovely tour boat towards the Zonneberg Caves at the foot of the Sint Pietersberg. On the way, we were treated to a delicious sailor’s lunch on board, and after an hour’s sail, we moored at the Zonneberg next to the ENCI. After a short but strenuous walk uphill, two guides gave us an interesting tour of the mines, which were built entirely by hand. It was a very impressive network of tunnels, pitch-black and cool, with very high humidity. A unique experience and wonderful to see how people have worked and taken shelter here for hundreds of years. After a splendid one-hour tour, we then made our way back to the boat. After a refreshing drink on board, we boarded the coach to set off for the Schnitzel Paradise in Roermond. We had a three-course dinner there and then enjoyed a drink together afterwards. Naturally, this made the journey home all the more enjoyable, as some of the participants simply couldn’t resist taking turns on Hein the bus driver’s microphone. We arrived back in Nijnsel at around half past nine in the evening.
We all had a wonderful day together and we all enjoyed it immensely. What’s more, the weather was absolutely glorious. To everyone who was there, but especially Hein Bos: thank you very much for such a lovely day!
