On 21 May 1971 pig farmer Bert Verbakel started his holding in stables for pig farming. Initially the work took place in a barn near his house in Nijnsel. After 7 years, however, the workshop became too small and moved to the Industrial Estate in Nijnsel (NL), where the holding is still located.
Bert soon began to specialise in the development and manufacture of pig feeders because he felt that the existing feeding methods did not meet his requirements as a pig farmer.
In the early 1970s, feed troughs were partly made of asbestos cement and steel, but at the end of the 1970s Bert switched as the first producer to the then unknown recycled plastic plates that he encountered at the agricultural trade fair Pig&Poultry in England. These plates were made of fused grains of recycled PE plastic, obtained from agricultural plastic, among others. On average, Verbakel has been processing 700,000 kilos of recycled plastic per year for 40 years in a row, which means that a huge amount of plastic has been extracted from the environment in all these years and has been processed into products for pig farming. An achievement that VERBA, but certainly also the VERBA customers and pig sector can be proud of.
VERBA He was able to cut, drill and thermoform the plastic sheets himself with ease. Thanks to this flexibility and Bert’s, as a pig farmer, keen desire for the perfect feeding trough, the slurry trough was soon developed.
Due to the success of this plastic frying bin, whose basic principles and sophisticated measurements are still to be found in many of the current products, the company grew very hard and a solid base was laid. This also gave VERBA the opportunity to adjust the feeding troughs even better to demand from the growing pig sector. For example, for example, the feed spill has always been an important spearhead in VERBA. 1 % less feed spill, which can easily be achieved with a good food tray, means soon many thousands of euros per year less feed costs. A good food tray is therefore almost always an underrated but certainly one of the most important, if not the most important, investment in pigs stables. A good food tray is a daily unnecessary feed waste, ensures less feed and water in the manure well, promotes the growth of the pig and makes it easy to work. The difference between a good food tray and a less good food tray is often difficult to see on the first face but is not easy to find in details such as a smooth finish, closed anti-morspan, high quality and high quality materials.
50 Years later, founder Bert Verbakel is still the owner of the family business VERBA and the production of the more than 200 different types and sizes of feed bowls, piglets nests and heating plates still takes place in the own factory in the Netherlands. As a result, the high quality and fast delivery time is guaranteed. By now, the daily management of VERBA has been in the hands of Jeroen Gloudemans, Bert's cousin, who has learned all ins & outs of feed containers from Bert.
VERBA is still known today for its high quality pig food containers that are very thoughtful and delivered worldwide. By this high quality VERBA means solidity, animal friendliness, hygiene, ease of work and excellent feed conversion. Requirements that all VERBA products meet.
