At Adrie van de Pas’s pig farm, the pigs are fed using a shovel system. The long troughs are being phased out and a Variomix feeding machine from PT1 is being introduced. I’m moving from one feeding point per pig back to almost one feeding point per ten animals. Practical experience with this type of feeding system varies, but I’ve seen at a large pig farm that it works well. That is why I see it as a challenge to make it a success. But above all, Adrie is making use of the extra square metres available to him for rearing pigs for meat. Instead of four batches of eight animals, I can now rear 19 pigs for meat in two batches. Every year, I can supply 750 extra pigs for meat within the same barn space.
