M and MU series

In the early 1980s, Verba invented the slurry feeder, which was subsequently refined to become the current M series feeder. The VERBA M series slurry feeders for fattening pigs are suitable for crumb, pellet and meal feeds.

Description

VERBA M-series slurry feeder for fattening pigs and piglets

A porridge feeder for pigs is a feeder in which the pig itself measures out the dry feed into the trough using a flap mechanism. It can then use the teat built into the feeder to mix the dry feed with water, thereby producing porridge.

In the early 1980s, Bert Verbakel, a former pig farmer and founder of Verba, invented the slurry feeder for pigs. This was further developed to create the current M series of pig feeders. The M-series feeders, designed for fattening pigs and piglets, are therefore the only truly original pig feeders.

Advantages of the M VERBA series mixing tanks

The M VERBA series slurry feeder for fattening pigs and piglets is suitable for crumb, pellet and meal feeds. This feeder is fitted with a unique metering mechanism featuring a Stainless steel teat. Thanks to the pig’s natural movements whilst feeding, the feeding system mixes feed and water in the correct proportions, ensuring optimal feed conversion and reduced costs. The ideal feed ration for pigs is 4 grams per valve opening.

Robust design and installation

A pig feeder must be securely fastened at the back and firmly anchored to the floor using mounting brackets. Preferably in a corner of the pigsty. Double pig feeders are available in ‘side-by-side’ and ‘back-to-back’ versions, allowing larger groups of pigs to be fed. The light-coloured interior of the Verba pig slurry feeders promotes better feed intake and facilitates hygiene monitoring.

Different models and uses

The M19100 slurry feeders for pigs are suitable for feed in the form of granules, pellets and crumbs, whilst the MU19100 slurry feeders for pigs are suitable for meal-based feed. The recommended number of pigs per slurry feeder is slightly higher than that for a dry feed feeder, as the pigs spend less time feeding due to the presence of water. This reduces feeding time by 17 per cent and decreases the number of feedings by 39 per cent (source: ILVO/varkensloket.be).

Warranty and approval

Excerpt from independent study A study by the Hillsborough Agricultural Research Institute (2001) shows that the best feed conversion ratio is achieved in pigs using the Verba feeder. These feed conversion ratios were significantly higher than those observed with all other feeders.
